Instructors are hired by school principals, who determine content:
Ten weeks of classes.
4 or 5 dances are introduced.
A minimum of 2 hours is spent on each dance.
This program targets youth 9-12 years of age. A friendly competition/festival involving the whole community tops off the instruction period.
The arts program is assisted by major performance groups. Funding is provided by major educational and arts organizations through scholarships to serious dance students. Its features:
2 hours/week of classes throughout the year
fully licensed instruction
This program is similar to other sports clubs found at secondary and college institutions. Facilitators of the program include: dance masters, fitness trainers, coaches. interns in a variety of subjects. Funding partners may include:
social service
local hospitals/universities/foundations for studies
other sports clubs that share facilities.
Sports clubs that are large enough may also manage the Young Dancer afterschool program as it runs its season.

Designed initially as a safe , effective and fun fitness program for all manner of chronic conditions, this program has attained recognition by a number of arthritis and elder care groups as an important contribution to maintaining functional movement.
In over 400 system of the YMCA as of 2018, this program continues to grow nationally.
